Thanks to those of you who sent feedback on extended posts. The preference was pretty overwhelming to avoid extended posts altogether (49%) or to break posts as rarely as possible only when they exceed 800-1000 words (26%). Fewer preferred a break at about 500 words (19%) or only a paragraph or two (6%). Obviously, most of those who replied find extended posts annoying. As such, I’ll try to use the feature only in extraordinary circumstances, if at all. I’m shooting for my own option “E”: trying to limit posts to about 800 words.
I’m not happy yet with the way the frequently asked questions sidebar works, but you’ve convinced me that extended posts are not the answer.
In response to other comments, we widened the text box a bit. Hope that helps. Also, XML feeds have always been set to include the full post and always will be. If anyone has any trouble with that feature, please drop me a line.
